The purpose of a space maintainer is to help your child’s permanent teeth grow straight. Space maintainers are custom-made using acrylic or metal material. Their main objective is to prevent the neighbouring teeth from shifting or tipping into the vacant space left by a missing tooth that’s why the maintainer is attached to one side of the empty space left by a lost tooth.
